This month I’m featuring a person I’ve only met once but knew she lived a life I have only seen on TV. As I grew up in the city (greater Los Angeles) my knowledge of horses was learned ONLY when our family visited Mountain Home, Idaho and my father’s best friend who had thousands of acres and mostly ran cattle. The first time I was put on a horse, I think I was 10 years old, I thought this could be a life of freedom. Unfortunately, horses and 1950’s track homes in L.A. don’t quite go together. So, I live vicariously through people like Stephanie and the stories she writes.
After several years of honing her training skills in high school and junior rodeos, Stephanie began barrel racing in the Northwest and Idaho Cowboys Association-sanctioned rodeos. Just like in her books, that’s where she met her Bronc Rider. And just like in her books, it was love at first sight. They have traveled to rodeos throughout the Northwest with Stephanie running barrels and her cowboy riding bucking horses and later doing team roping.
Stephanie and her Bronc Rider now have three adult children and four grandchildren. As a ranching grandma,Stephanie teaches her grandkids about caring for the animals and the sport she loves. She lives on a farm located along the Oregon/Idaho border, where she and her husband raise hay, horses and cattle, with the help of Cisco, the wonder horse, Dizzy Dottie, the Border Collie, and two registered Munchkin cats, Magic and Martin.
Today, Stephanie is featuring a boxset of the series that told her own story and expanded on it, Sugar Coated Cowboys. And the special deal is that it’s being offered for only $8.99! With over 23 reviews between the three books with 4 and 5 stars consistently, I don’t see how you can go wrong with this boxset. The books separately cost nearly $20.00
Just in case you don’t recognize the cover here, I’ve captured the three beautiful original books below.
Have some questions for Stephanie about the life of a cowgirl? I’ll be looking at the responses and randomly selecting someone to get their own copy of the boxset. So, let’s pepper her with lots of questions.
Here’s the one I’m starting off with: Stephanie, how many times did you fall of your horse while learning to barrel race? I can’t imagine staying on through those tight corners.
