It’s time to introduce you to someone who knows how to have fun. Her stories always have humor, a little snark, and yet are page turners. In fact, you can try her out for free by signing up for her email on her website. I have known Kristen Painter since we were critique partners when we were both getting started. I think that was 14 years ago? We live on opposite coasts–she’s in Florida and I’m in Oregon. We used to exchange manuscript chapters online and then meet up at least once a year for a writer’s conference. Unfortunately, it’s been about five or six years since we last met face-to-face. Thank goodness there are other ways to stay connected.
The most amazing thing about my love for Kristen is that we are opposites in so many ways–that is on the surface. Kristen is a girly girl times ten, and a fashionista who loves clothes, shoes, sunglasses, purses. Believe me, she dresses the part well. I’m a tomboy and fashion and I are significantly more than arms length apart. I DO love fashion and appreciate it. On other people. It just seems like a lot of trouble to me to think about on a daily basis. Kristen is also a good party gal–not the get drunk and make a fool of herself type. She just loves people and enjoys herself and always has a funny story to tell. As I’ve told many of my fans, if I go to a party I tend to find a corner of the room where I can block out everything and just hang with a couple of people. Parties exhaust me. The plight of a true introvert. I can do them, and even fake being a great networker for about an hour, then I’m done.
In spite of these differences, I truly LOVE Kristen to death. She is one of the kindest, most caring people I’ve met in my writing career. Her values are rock solid, and she does so much good work for others.
So, let’s get to know Kristen Painter the writer. This is from her own bio. “I’ve written poetry, articles for magazines, short stories, paranormal romance (my current genre of choice along with cozy mystery), fantasy romance, contemporary romance, steampunk romance, and urban fantasy. Since writing two urban fantasy series, I’ve now returned to paranormal romance with the Nocturne Falls series. I love being able to write these funny, snarky, sweet books that are filled with great supernatural characters and lots of cats! I’ve gotten to stay in Nocturne Falls for my cozy mystery series, the Jayne Frost mysteries. And I still have several urban fantasy series I’d like to write. I just need to find the time!”
You can see how she hits my buttons as a reader: fantasy, fun, sweet, cozy mysteries AND CATS! 🙂 For those who like their paranormal a little darker, you’d love her Urban Fantasy series. Really, how can you not like what she writes? I hope you give her try–particularly my readers who are interested in “sweet” books that are still good romances.
Her The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride is free at all retailers. This is the first book in the acclaimed Nocturne Falls Series and it is a hoot.
Also, if you sign up for her mailing list on her home page, she’ll send you her book Recipe for Magic for free. It’s a great contemporary romance with a little bit of the paranormal thrown in via a magic recipe book. I say grab it now. How can you lose?
